Burning Giraffe

There were actually two different versions of Burning Giraffe. This is complicated so..... The first Burning Giraffe (BG1) was formed in the fall of 1985 by Andy Hisset (drums),Jimmy Hester (keyboards), Hank Coppedge (vocals), John Golden (guitar), and Ken Jones (bass). BG1 played 3 gigs. The infamous first gig was at Thomas's (brick house on King Street - i.e. Hippy Hill) opening up for Discord. BG1 also played a forgotten party in an apartment in Boone and a bizarre X-mas party in Cary, NC with Andy from Discord on vocals. By January of 1986 Andy and Jimmy were also playing with Toys Don't Hate (TDH) and BG1 was decommissioned. John and Ken quickly teamed up with Chris and Rob who had been working together on some songs and formed Seeing Fields (SRW). TDH and SRW played several shows together as the ASU pub in spring of 1986.

Jimmy and Andy left TDH and formed Dionysian Tapestry with Matt Hatch and Kevin Kirk sometime in mid 1986 and they also played a gig with SRW at the ASU Pub. By the spring of 1987 SRW had unraveled and Ken took over as bass player in DT and the name of the band changed to Burning Giraffe again. The line up for BG grew as Ellen Everette, Leigh Woody and James Miller joined the band. By the fall of 1988 the size of the band had decreased and Jimmy, Andy, James (and Leigh for a while) became And Siamese Urbain. Ken Jones went on to play bass with No Reason Why.
